Water Consumption by Oil & Gas Wells in the Susquehanna River Basin

Description: Produced for research led by Dr. Jennifer Baka at Penn State University into hydraulic fracturing (fracking) in the Marcellus Shale region. This map symbolizes the water consumption of each active well in northern Pennsylvania– the majority of active wells are fracking wells, meaning that they use much more water to drill and operate compared to a conventional well.
